eBay For sale today is the humongous and rare Stone Bridge Press manga trade paperback (tpb)/graphic novel The Osamu Tezuka Story: A Life in Manga and Anime, published in 2016. It is 928 pages long. Written by Toshio Ban and Frederik Schodt. Art and cover by Osamu Tezuka. This graphic-format biography of Osamu Tezuka – Japan’s “God of Manga” – looks at one of the twentieth century’s great creative artists (Astro Boy, Kimba the White Lion, Black Jack). It is also an anecdotal study of the evolution of Japan’s early manga and anime business and its heroes. A never-before-seen popular culture history of postwar Japan, it is sure to fascinate fans and anyone interested in manga, anime, and the potential of the graphic storytelling medium. I am not a comics grader, but I try to be as thorough as possible when assessing books for any flaws. I don’t believe in using a number grade system – to me they are mostly utilized as a method to be ambiguous about exact condition and/or individual imperfections – but I do attempt to describe anything other than minor cover shelf-scuffing/scratching in detail. If a certain flaw discussed below does not mention that it affects inside pages, then it does not. —————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— This copy is in good condition, with a solid spine and great overall inside pages (photo#12 example). It has some signs of wear including a curl towards its page edge, although most affect its externals, all described below. **Photo#3: -Spine edge: Small scratch and ~1.5″ scratch near its middle **Photo#4: -Upper spine corner: Light scuffing, tiny peel where it meets back cover. Two ~1″ indents near/around where it meets front cover. **Photo#5: -Lower spine corner: Light scuffing along it. **Photo#6: -Front cover top edge: Light shelf-wear along it. -Outer corner: Tiny scuff/bend, shows lightly on ~20 pages. **Photo#7: -Front cover bottom edge: 2 tiny dings/scuffs near its middle that show lightly on ~15 pages, otherwise light scuffing along it. -Outer corner: ~1/2″ indent/depression around corner, shows on ~10 pages as a tiny scuff. **Photo#8: -Back cover top edge: 2 tiny dings/scuffs towards the outer corner that show lightly on ~10 pages, otherwise light scuffing along it. -Outer corner: Small crease/scuff/bend, goes thru ~50 pages as a tiny bend. **Photo#9: -Back cover bottom edge: Tiny depression near its middle that shows very lightly on ~1/4 pages, otherwise light if any shelf-wear. -Outer corner: Light ~1″ crease around corner: goes thru pages as a light bend, pages #856-866 as a crease/corner fold, and #830-897 as a light indent. Tiny scuff/peel at extreme corner that goes thru ~20 pages lightly. **Additionally: Front cover possesses a curl/depression near/along its page edge (photos#6,7) that causes a light curl/bend to the book at that point. ~1.5″ vertical crease starting adjacent the bottom edge near the spine corner (photo#10 w/illumination), and a nearby light indent spanning the cover’s height (also in photo#10). Small indent/depression near the title, and two more ~1″ over the title. Back cover has some tiny indents/scratches around its upper half with a small scuff patch near its center. Spine edge has a tiny ding.
